Elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives from the 23rd District in 1972, 1974, and 1976.
Tom Gilmore is president and co-owner of Gilmore Plant & Bulb, a fourth generation nursery and landscape contracting company. Gilmore served in the NC House of Representatives, and was Deputy Secretary of the Department of Human Resources under Gov. Jim Hunt. He has received numerous honors, including Guilford County �s �Most Outstanding Farmer,� and �NC Outstanding Nurseryman.� He has also served on a number of state boards and commissions including the NC State Board of Agriculture, NC Extension Service, NC Farm Service Agency, and Keep North Carolina Beautiful, Inc.
Democratic contender for Governor of NC, 1984. Democratic nominee for U.S. House, 1988.
Gilmore led the opposition to a state constitutional amendment in 1981 which would have shifted state elections to odd-numbered years.
