He graduated in1991 from Baruch College – CUNY with a BBA degree in Economics. In 2003, Saywalah quit his job as Controller at KLEAR Electrical Corporation to organize the African Center for Community Empowerment as the result of the shooting deaths of two promising black male from low-income families in the Far Rockaway section of Queens, NY. For the past ten years, Saywalah has dedicated his life to serving our youth, families and community basically without a pay check. His is a passion that is unmatched and commitment that is strikingly unrelenting.

Sawalah believes “that every child has an inherent ability to become a productive member of society. The differentiator is the level of parental and community support a child receives during the critical years of development ( age 1- 21).” One of Salawah’s famous quotes is “ do not judge a child by his or her current state but by what he or she could possibly become.”

Currently, Saywalah is the Executive Director of the African Center for Community Empowerment; a non-for-profit organization servicing youth and families in Southeast Queens. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Addabbo Family health Center, and Vice President of the Board of Directors of Farmers Boulevard Development Corp. Previously, Saywalah served as President of the Board of Directors of Arverne Limited Profit Housing Corp, Controller of KLEAR Electrical Corp and Business Administrator of Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Queens.

While in Liberia, Saywalah served as International Commissioner of the Boy Scouts of Liberia, General Coordinator of the Monrovia Chapter of the Liberian Red Cross Society, and President of the student government of the Tubman High School. He also served as a member of the Liberian Delegations to the Games of the XXII Olympiad in the USSR in 1980, and the 29th World Scout Conference in Dearborn, Michigan in 1984.

Saywalah is also the recipient of numerous awards including the 2005 Union Square Awards, 2006 HBA/Times Ledger “Community Impact Awards,” Pan African Development Foundation "Activitist and Humanitarian Award," New York Coalition of 100 Black Women "Community Service Awards,"New York City Council Citations, and NY1 “New Yorker of the Week.”
