Brent’s mother, Laureen O’Leary is from Westminster, Massachusetts, but lived in Sunnyside while working as a flight attendant for American Airlines, where she met Brent’s father.

Brent was born in Jackson Heights and he and his family moved to Long Island where Brent attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and Roslyn Public high school. He graduated with a B.A. in History from Trinity College, Hartford and received his law degree from Boston University Law School.

Brent also went abroad for one year to study history at the University College Galway in Ireland and International Law at Oxford University, England.

After graduating from law school and passing the New York Bar, Brent went to work for the New York law firm, White & Case, in their Tokyo office where he specialized in business and finance law.

While in Tokyo, Brent who speaks fluent Japanese, was elected Chair of Democrats Abroad, Japan Chapter which helps Americans overseas to vote. He then went on to be elected to the Democratic National Committee from 2004-2008 and was a Superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention.

Beside his political activities, Brent organized numerous charity events to raise funds to build schools for homeless children in Asia and was appointed to be Chair of the Corporate Counsel Committee for the local Chamber of Commerce.

Brent left White and Case to join Bloomberg LP as a legal counsel and returned to New York City with Bloomberg and settled in Long Island City.
