Mark Dunlea was Executive Director of Hunger Action Network of New York State from 1985 to 1999. He still works for Hunger Action on public policy issues such as economic justice and corporate welfare. Hunger Action Network is a statewide membership organization of emergency food programs, advocates and other individuals whose goal is to end hunger and its root causes, including poverty, in New York State. At Hunger Action Network, Mark has helped increased funding for food pantries and soup kitchens; worked to raise the state minimum wage and expand access to health care; helped thousands of families obtain food stamps and other federal nutritional benefits; and started community gardens.

Mark Dunlea teaches Environmental Politics and Policies at RPI and is helping to establish the Green City Project. He is a long-time environmental advocate on issues such as global warming, recycling, green composting and waste reduction. He was one of the first environmentalists to expose the dangers posed by garbage incineration and nuclear power. He led the fight in Poestenkill to save the majestic Barbersville Waterfall. He is presently working to halt the genetic engineering of our food system.

Mark Dunlea served as a member of the Poestenkill Town Board from 1992 to 1995. He oversaw the closing of the Town landfill and helped establish the Town's recycling program. He cut taxes every year was on the Town Board. He voted against a pay raise for Town officials, and gave back his pay raise to the Town. He fought for stronger ethic laws and proposed a town acquifer protection plan. He forced the town insurance contract

Mark Dunlea was a co-founder of the Green Party of New York State in 1990. He served as the statewide campaign manager for the Greens in 1998 when it obtained the 50,000 votes for Governor needed to qualify as a political party. He served as the Clearinghouse Coordinator for the Green Party in 1999.

Mark is a co-founder of the New York and National Public Interest Research Group; Rensselaer County Environmental Action; Social Justice Center in Albany; Peace Offerings; Albany Chapter of the National Lawyers' Guild; Fair Budget Campaign; Community Works; and the Capital Regional Alliance for Fair Trade (CRAFT). He is a former member of the Legal Aid Committee of the NYS Bar Association.

Mark was the nominee of the Green and Democratic Parties for the 108th State Assembly District in 1992 and the Green, Independence and Liberal Party nominee for County Executive in 1995.

Mark is the author of the Environmental and Financial Dangers of Garbage Incineration; Troy's Tax Tragedy; the NYS Cable Television Ommission; and, The Privitization of the Welfare System.
