InfoDwain was raised on a family farm north of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. His parents, six sisters and two brothers shared a small farm home. Dwain learned early about the value of cooperation and the rewards of hard work.

With the support of his family, friends, neighbours, teachers and community, and lots of hard work, Dwain has become a successful farmer, public servant and business man.

Following high school, Dwain continued farming while working as a Customs Officer and studying for his degree in Political Science.

Dwain was first elected in 1978, he was appointed Minister of Social Services in 1980, a position he held until becoming Opposition House Leader in 1982. He was appointed Minister of Economic Development in 1991, a post he held until 1996. From 1996 to 1999, Dwain was Minister responsible for Crown Investments Corporation. He was Deputy Premier from 1995 to 2000, Government House Leader from 1997 to 2000, and Minister responsible for Agriculture from 1999 to 2000.

Dwain was appointed Vice President, Government Relations of Nexen Inc., in September 2000. In this role, he has travelled the globe and seen first-hand how to create long-term prosperity and navigate the choppy waters of economic uncertainty.

Dwain is actively involved in the community as Past President of the Canada Arab Business Council, former Board Member of the Nature Conservancy of Canada, and current member of the Mexico-Canada Energy Working Group Committee.

Throughout his career in government and the private sector, Dwain continued to operate a successful farming and cattle operation near Shaunavon. He is married to Rubiela. Dwain and Rubiela have a blended family of five children.

Dwain’s early experiences, coupled with his experience running his farm, providing service to the public as a public servant and politician, and as a businessman in the energy sector make him the ideal candidate for leadership of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party.

Dwain will hold Brad Wall’s feet to the fire. He will expose the Saskatchewan Party for what it is.

Dwain will defeat Brad Wall in 2011 and will immediately begin the work of achieving his vision for our province – strong government, strong unions and strong private and public sector businesses working together to create lasting prosperity for Saskatchewan people.
