| Info | Born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, his family was forced to move from the state due to his fathers sympathetic views towards the north. Admitted to the bar in 1877 he served as Bond County State's Attorney from 1882-1891 when he was appointed by President Harrison to serve on the board of members for the U.S. Naval Academy where he gave orations at graduation ceremonies.
He served as Illinois Lieutenant Governor from 1897-1905.
