Info | Orlando Sanchez is suited for this role because, for much of his life, Orlando has accepted the challenge made by our Founding Fathers and dedicated himself to public service. His commitment stems largely from the teachings of his parents who fled Castro’s Communist dictatorship in Cuba and brought Orlando to the United States in 1962.
Right after his graduation from Bellaire High School, Orlando set out to protect his country in the United States Air Force and then served in the Texas Air National Guard. After graduating cum laude from the University of Houston, he joined Harris County as a young probation officer committed to protecting our neighborhoods.
Orlando’s commitment to civic leadership increased and he served as president of his neighborhood civic association. Then, in 1995, frustrated with the inability of city government to eradicate blighted areas and provide meaningful enforcement to deed restrictions, he turned his sights on City Hall. Bolstered by a grass roots campaign that united different ethnic groups as well as suburban and inner city residents, Orlando won a huge upset victory for an at-large city council seat despite being outspent by his opponent nearly 2-1.
