| Info | John A. Sullivan was sworn in to the United States House of Representatives on February 27, 2002, after winning a special election to fill the vacancy created by Congressman Steve Largent.
Congressman Sullivan is focusing his efforts on traditional Republican values including reducing taxes, improving education, bringing new jobs to Oklahoma, protecting Second Amendment rights, rebuilding the national defense, fighting against terrorism, securing Social Security and Medicare and protecting the rights of the unborn and the traditional family.
A successful public servant, businessman and entrepreneur, the Congressman brings years of experience and common sense from Oklahoma's State Legislature to Washington, D.C. Since arriving in the nation's capitol, Sullivan has aggressively identified, co-sponsored and voted in favor of legislation that represents the interests of the people of the First District.
On his first day in office, Sullivan met with Environmental Protection Agency officials to discuss improving the water quality in the Tulsa area. He has voted in favor of legislation to get Oklahomans back to work and to reform class-action lawsuits; co-sponsored legislation to increase veterans' benefits and to protect children ? both born and unborn; and continues to meet with Oklahomans daily to discuss pressing issues and governmental concerns.
Growing up, Sullivan assisted with local Republican campaigns by knocking on doors, putting up yard signs and placing phone calls. So it was no surprise when he won a seat in the Oklahoma Legislature, eventually serving the party as the Republican Whip. His major accomplishments include working with civic officials, Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma to create OSU-Tulsa; sponsoring the largest tax cut in state history; fighting to eliminate the state sales tax on groceries and over-the-counter drugs; and passing the Parental Notification Bill for minors seeking abortions.
Sullivan, born and raised in Tulsa, is a fourth generation Oklahoman. He graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma State University with a degree in business administration. Sullivan has enjoyed a successful career in the transportation, oil and gas industry and in real estate.
Sullivan is married to Judy Beck and they have four adorable children: Tommy, Meredith, Sydney and Daniel
