InfoMany people know Paul Honeman from his many years serving in Law Enforcement.

For the past three years, you have known him as the ‘public face’ of the Anchorage Police Department (APD) as the spokesperson and Director of Public Affairs of the APD.

Leading up to this role, Paul has dedicated almost a quarter century to Public Safety service in Alaska and to the City of Anchorage.

Here is a brief look at Paul’s Public Safety career:

* He served as a Federal Police Officer with the Federal Protective Service in Alaska - from December 1983 through June, 1985, and continued to serve as an on-call employee with FPS until August, 1986.
* Served with the Anchorage Police Department beginning in September, 1986 as a Community Service Officer.
* Served as a Patrol Officer from November, 1989 until promotion to Sergeant.
o Paul served on every shift and nearly every patrol area while assigned to the Patrol Division as a police officer.
* Promoted to Sergeant in 1999 and served on all Patrol Division Shifts as well as the East and South Districts during the APD Community Policing directive.
* Promoted to Lieutenant in 2002.
o Paul served as the Commander of Day Shift Patrol, Patrol Administrative Lieutenant (2nd to the Captain of Patrol).
o Attended the School of Police Staff and Command at the prestigious Northwestern University in Evanston, Illionois
* Paul served on many task forces and committees throughout the city during his career, including the Incident Management Team for disaster response for nearly one year.

More than a Police Officer

While Paul is extremely proud of his public safety service – he is much more diverse and knowledgeable in other city services than just the police.

Paul served two years as an Assistant Den Leader and two more years as an Assistant Packmaster for Cub Scout Pack 215 – Cub Scouts of America - Anchorage – Western Alaska Council.

Paul has served in youth sports – in baseball as a field umpire in support of solo officials, fundraising and supporting team functions.

Paul became hooked on hockey as a young man, and when his children were playing age – Paul quickly turned from team parent to Coach when the assigned coach was unable to serve his daughters team. First year (Atoms) skaters were suddenly supported by three hockey dads, Paul serving as head coach. Paul became an assistant coach for many teams during his son’s playing years and became known as the team ‘hoseman’ for keeping the young players hydrated during the games.

Perhaps the highlight of Paul’s hockey career was serving as an Assistant to Head Coach Rob Larkey at East High School. Many fine young men and women played during Paul’s two year service to the team. Most of those players have stayed in contact with Paul Honeman, updating him as to their life progress and being excellent citizens in Anchorage and around the country.

One particular player – Scott Gomez – himself something of a local sports legend, has stayed in constant contact with Paul.
