| Info | Paul Bryar, M.D. is a life long resident of Chicago who deeply values service to others and community involvement. After high school at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago, Paul graduated in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in Government/International Relations from Georgetown University. He taught high school before attending University of Illinois at Chicago Medical School. Dr. Bryar graduated with honors and completed his residency in ophthalmic surgery at Northwestern University and a fellowship at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. After completing his training, Dr. Bryar joined the full time faculty at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
Dr. Bryar divides his time between patient care, teaching medical students, training medical residents and community health work in the Cabrini Green Neighborhood. For over ten years, Paul has devoted one day each week to care for patients at the Near North Health Service Corp. clinic where he sees first hand the struggles of patients who lack access to health insurance. Through his participation in the Chicago Marathon, Dr. Bryar has worked tirelessly to raise funds to equip and expand clinic services and open a second eye clinic at another health center.
Dr. Bryar is recognized nationally as a leader in development and adoption of health information systems to improve patient care and lower medical costs. He is also sought out to consult on delivery of cost effective, state of the art care to community health centers. Dr. Bryar advocates tirelessly for increased access to quality health care.
Dr. Bryar holds leadership roles in several national medical organizations: including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Association of Ophthalmic Pathology. For his excellence in teaching our future doctors, he has received awards and recognition from his students, fellow teachers, and national organizations.
Paul, his wife Jennifer, and daughters (ages 9 and 7) have been long term residents of the 5th Congressional District. They are members of St. Andrews Parish and are active volunteers at St. Andrews School. He has volunteered as a soccer coach, guest teacher, and at various Church and school events.
