| Info | Dr. Carlos Monteagudo is currently a candidate in Illinois's 5th congressional district special election, 2009. Carlos is a Harvard-trained psychiatrist who grew up in Chicago public housing and attended public schools after his family fled Cuba and emigrated to this country as refugees. He grew up in the northside Chicago neighborhood of Wrigleyville and dedicated his career to the service of underserved communities. He has worked for 23 years in public institutions (including Cook County Hospital, Boston City Hospital, Massachusetts Mental Health Center, New Hampshire Hospital, The University Settlement of New York, North Central Bronx Hospital). In 1997, he was recipient of a Kellogg National Leadership Fellowship. He co-founded SEED, a non-profit organization dedicated to leveraging the creative power of non-profits working to transform lives and systems.
