Info | MONTGOMERY, John Gallagher, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Northumberland, Northumberland County, Pa., June 27, 1805; studied under a private tutor; was graduated from Washington (now Washington and Jefferson) College, Washington, Pa., in 1824; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1827 and commenced practice in Danville, Montour County, Pa.; member of the State house of representatives in 1855; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress and served from March 4, 1857, until his death, in Danville, Pa., April 24, 1857, presumably from the effects of an illness contracted in Washington, D.C., during the inauguration of President Buchanan; interment in Episcopal Cemetery.
