Info | Clyde E. Stone was born near Mason City, Illinois on March 23, 1876. He attended City High School and graduated from the University of Illinois. He taught in the public schools for six years. Justice Stone first began the practice of law in Peoria on July 1, 1903. He served as First Assistant State’s Attorney of Peoria County from 1906 to 1909, as County Judge from 1910 to 1915, and as Circuit Judge of the Tenth Judicial District from 1915 to 1918. On June 3, 1918, he was elected to the Supreme Court from the Fifth Supreme Court District, and re-elected in 1927, 1936, and again in 1945. He served as Chief Justice for the years 1921, 1926, 1931, 1935, and 1942. He died January 14, 1948.
