InfoRepresentative Justin Amash (pronounced uh-MOSH) represents Michigan’s Third District in the 112th United States Congress. Justin serves on the Committee on the Budget, the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and the Joint Economic Committee. He was elected to his first term on November 2, 2010.

Justin was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He received his bachelor’s degree with High Honors in Economics from the University of Michigan and his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School. He worked as a business lawyer and a Michigan state representative before his election to Congress.

Justin was one of only twelve Representatives to have perfect attendance, not missing one of the 948 roll call votes, during the First Session of the 112th Congress. He has been a leading critic of the unconstitutional war in Libya, the indefinite detention provisions in the National Defense Authorization Act, and the Stop Online Piracy Act—SOPA.

When asked by a New York Times reporter to describe his voting methodology, Justin explained: “I follow a set of principles, I follow the Constitution. And that’s what I base my votes on. Limited government, economic freedom, and individual liberty.”

Justin has been a leader in the incorporation of Facebook and other social media into his work as a public official, and he has set new standards for accountability.

In October 2010, TIME magazine named Justin one of its "40 under 40 - Rising Stars of U.S. Politics."

Justin lives in Cascade Charter Township with his wife Kara, a graduate of Calvin College and a former elementary school teacher. Justin and Kara have three children: Alexander, Anwen, and Evelyn.

As opposed to getting involved in 7 regime change wars wasting billions of dollars a year, killing thousands of people.

Yeah but Amash saying "Lets not do that" is reprehensible...

You do know that disagreeing with someone's isolationism doesn't mean supporting every intervention or wasting money in Iraq, etc. You have a very black-and-white view of the world that belies you inexperience and idealism.

Amash is against getting involved in regime change wars, being against that would be in favor of wasteful Regime Change wars, if Kyle is not in favor if that HE can clarify it himself

PA Indy is correct. You have an incredibly black and white and idealized view of foreign policy (and politics in general) which harms your capacity to take issues on a case by case basis. The real world does teach nuance in a way that academics cannot fully convey.

You have yet to clarify your foreign policy though.

You didn't ask him to clarify, you accused him of being for any and every war because he disagrees with Amash's foreign policy approach. Don't pretend to be super interested in a policy conversation now.

E Pluribus Unum: You have yet to clarify your foreign policy though.

My problem is that whenever I make a comment, I am immediately met with straw men and red herring arguments from you. If you wanted to have a legitimate discussion about foreign policy, we can have it.

But we should probably have it in a different setting, as my primary purpose on this website is to contribute political information that can be utili,ed into the future

Guess saying "HE can clarify for himself" means nothing

I don't even understand what this comment means...

However, since you are incredibly insistent on knowing my views: I am an internationalist and believe that isolationist tendencies make us less safe and prosperous as a country and as a world.

I am reticent about going to war, but readily dismissing military action is a short sighted and unrealistic view of the world.

I don't think it is politically courageous to say you are against anything in a general sense. Every policy has nuances and requires careful consideration, not easy answers and talking points.

I support the US actions in Venezuela and think America has a moral obligation to support democratic leaders throughout the world. However, I think regime change is a tricky situation and we cannot support it broadly.

Justin Amash, Ron Paul, Tulsi Gabbard, and others like them make America less safe while pleasing their fervent social media followers.

There you go. Since you were so insistent on hearing my position, I hope this is enough.

Kyle, that particular smartass comment was probably meant to substitute for the FACT that he didn't actually ask for your foreign policy views...

I disagree, US involvement in Regime Change wars is a bad thing and makes things worse in the world.

Terrorism has not gone down since our involvement in Middle Eastern Conflicts, THEY WENT UP [Link]

Killing Gaddafi did not make Libya any better, all we did was put a power vacuum and has now lead to open slave markets in Libya.

And you said Regime "think regime change is a tricky situation and we cannot support it broadly." Yet you said you support US action in Venezuela, like him or not Maduro was elected and Guaido never ran for President.

But saying, let's stay out of other countries businesses is more dangerous then military intervention.

The House website now lists Amash as a Libertarian so I think we need to make a new party switch race. Just trying to find the best date for it. Any ideas ya'll?
