InfoMy name is Dan Lensing. I was born in New Hampton, IA. With the exception of the last 13
months, I have lived in the northeast corner of Iowa my entire life. I went to high school at Turkey Valley Community School in Jackson
Junction where I ran track and played football. I was a 2-time State Champion in the 1600-meter Medley Relay and 1st-Team All-State in
football. I graduated high school in 2004 and went to Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge to play football and get my Associate of Arts degree. I received my AA degree in December 2005 and went home and worked that following spring semester before I decided where I was going to continue college.
I decided to stop playing football that spring because I had some scar tissue in my left knee and decided to go to the University of Iowa to finish my Bachelors degree. I graduated from Iowa in May 2008 with a Bachelors degree in economics. Upon completion of my degree, I went home and started searching for careers, but was unable to find one I thought I would truly enjoy. So in August 2008, I decided to make a run for the Iowa House of Representatives. I ran "nominated by petition" just as I am currently for US House. I spent around $90 of my own money on the campaign and received 3,300+ votes (approx. 26%). At the time of the election, I was working 40 hours per week at Sears in Decorah, IA and training to get back into football trying to play professionally. After the election was over, I started looking at graduate programs for economics. In early June, I decided to go to Kansas State University to start work on my PhD in economics and that is currently where I am right now. I do not live in Iowa at this point, but I will be leaving K-State with a Masters degree and moving back to Iowa in January if elected to this office.
I have just started my second year of the PhD and currently have a 3.5 GPA. I decided to make a run for US House the weekend of July 4th because I want to do something big with myself and am tired of economically illiterate politicians running our country. I know economics and I know what measures we need to take to get our nation and economy back on track. I am a very direct, honest, and motivated person and will push for policies that will reduce spending, reduce taxes in the long-term, and do whatever is necessary to get our debt under control. It seems to me right now that the vast majority of our politicians are only considering policies that are politically popular and will keep them in office. They are afraid to implement measures that will actually reduce the deficit and shore up problems with Social Security and Medicare.
I have absolutely no interest in becoming a career politician. I have just turned 25 and would like to do at most three terms in the House and then maybe make a run for the Senate, but that would be it. I have other things I want to achieve in my life as well, and don't want to make being a politician a long-term career move. If elected, I promise to never take one penny from any lobbyist my entire time in office. I know all of you reading this probably won't believe this statement, but I keep my promises! Take a look at "My Contract to America" which I have signed to guarantee this promise. Washington could not, and will not change the person I am. I have nothing to hide that a lobbyist could dig up in order to blackmail me. I will work for YOU, the great citizens of Iowa. Not for any lobbyist.
Also, I am spending all of my own money on this website and any other campaign activities I undertake such as ads in newspapers. I have created this site completely on my own and will be doing any other campaign activities by myself while I work as a teaching assistant for K-State and progress through the most difficult semester of my PhD. As a result of this busy schedule, I likely will not be able to make it to any legislative forums or debates. So please accept my apologies if I do not make any personal appearances. If time permits, I will attend. Please take a look at my views on various issues and I would really appreciate your vote on November 2nd. Also, please feel free to email or call me anytime with questions or concerns. I will tell you exactly what is on my mind about any issue, just ask me. My email is daniel.lensing@gmail.com and my cell number is 563-379-7032. If I do not answer right away, I will get back to you as quickly as possible. Thank you for visiting my website.
