InfoDebra Stone has lived in the Cartwright School District for over 40 years. She was born in Rapid City, South Dakota. Her family moved to Phoenix in 1967, where she attended Glen L. Downs elementary school. After graduating from Frank Borman Jr. High School and Maryvale High School, Debra continued her education by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Management from the University of Phoenix. In 2002, she completed a Master’s degree in Instructional Design and Performance Technology from Boise State University.

Debra Stone worked in Special Education for 11 years helping developmentally disabled children and adults. Debra served as an adjunct faculty member at Rio Salado College, teaching classes in the areas of social sciences, computer information systems, quality management, and public administration. Debra Stone has been employed by Maricopa County as an Education & Training Consultant, teaching, developing curriculum, and coordinating educational programs for past 21 years.

Debra is an ardent child advocate and community activist. She has served as a board member for Homestead Neighborhood Association and as a volunteer for Phoenix Neighborhood Patrol. Debra has organized and volunteered in numerous youth activities such as clean-ups, graffiti paint-outs, summer job programs and after-school programs to promote education, safety, wellness, civic pride and success of all children.

Ms. Stone is an advocate of emphasizing technology skills and using technology assisted learning opportunities in the schools. Ms. Stone has effectively used distance learning to teach college classes and has provided online learning opportunities to thousands of Maricopa County employees. This experience underscores her belief that a strong foundation in technology will help students achieve learning goals and make them more employable in the future.

Debra Stone believes that all children have a right to a good education in order to fulfill their potential as valuable members of the community. Debra also understands that great teachers need to be cultivated and supported, as they are the ones who most inspire young people to achieve a lifelong commitment to education and learning. They provide the foundational skills and competencies that equip them to make positive choices, to build relationships, and to succeed in life. A proper educational foundation, along with other asset-building activities, provide youth with a strong sense of their own power, purpose, worth, and promise for the future.
