Info | LEVY, William Mallory, a Representative from Louisiana; born in Isle of Wight, Va., October 31, 1827; completed preparatory studies; was graduated from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va., in 1844; served in the Mexican War as second lieutenant in Company F, First Regiment, Virginia Volunteers; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1851 and commenced practice in Norfolk, Va.; moved to Natchitoches, La., in 1852 and continued the practice of law; member of the State house of representatives 1859-1861; served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War; commissioned captain of Company A, Second Louisiana Infantry, May 11, 1861; subsequently served as a major in the Adjutant General’s Department; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1875-March 3, 1877); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1876; member of the State constitutional convention in 1879; appointed associate justice of the State supreme court in 1879 and served until his death in Saratoga, N.Y., August 14, 1882; interment in the American Cemetery, Natchitoches, La.
