InfoHaving lived in the same house on Scott Street since 1974, Owen O'Donnell has been a longtime advocate for neighborhoods, education and youth, and environmental causes.

A moderate Democrat, Owen was a practicing attorney from 1969 to 1986 doing trial and land use work. Owen holds a B.A. from Yale University and a LLB from Stanford Law School. Since 1986, he has been involved in a number of start-up companies and has worked in finance. He also taught real estate and real estate law for five years at the San Mateo Community College.

Currently, he is semi-retired and is involved in a number of nonprofit organizations and community activities.

Environmental Activist: Owen has served on the Board of Baykeeper for seven years and as Board Chair for four of those years. Baykeeper is the only non-governmental organization devoted exclusively to protecting the San Francisco Bay under the Federal Clean Water Act. It has been involved in many important cases and environmental events including the recent oil spill from a container ship that hit the Bay Bridge. For 13 years, he has also served on the Board of the Louis S.B. Leakey Foundation, which funds paleo-anthropological research.

Neighborhood Activist: Owen has been active in the Fillmore Economic Development Corporation and, while he was living in the Haight in the early '70s, he was a member of HANC.

Youth Activist: Owen is one of the founders of Pacific Primary, one of the finest pre-schools in the country. He has also worked to support Huckleberry House by serving on the Board of Directors of Youth Advocates, the nonprofit organization that runs Huckleberry House and other programs for runaway youths. For four years, he also served on the Victimless Crime Committee of the San Francisco Barristers.
