InfoEric, 47, was born and raised in Simcoe. The youngest of five children born to Bill and Jean Hoskins, his family’s roots in Haldimand-Norfolk go back five generations and nearly 150 years. Eric attended Simcoe Composite School, spending the summers picking apples and working at the refinery in Nanticoke.

After graduating high school, Eric went on to study medicine at both McMaster and Oxford universities, where he was a Rhodes scholar. On completing his studies, Eric found himself drawn to humanitarian work as a doctor in some of the world’s most troubled war zones, including Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia. Upon returning to Canada, Eric spent three years in federal government as the Senior Advisor to Foreign Minister Lloyd Axworthy.

Eric now practices medicine while serving as President of War Child, a leading Canadian charity helping children in war zones. Eric has received numerous awards for his humanitarian work and his commitment to public service, including the United Nations Lester B. Pearson Peace Medal and the Governor General’s Meritorious Service Cross. In 2008, Eric was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Eric is married to Dr. Samantha Nutt, a specialist in women’s health. Together, they have a three year old son, Rhys, and a terrier named Moose.
