|Info||Richard N. Komi is a 42 year-old resident of Manchester, NH. A NH State Representative, he lives with his wife and three children in the city’s Ward 5, where he owns a home. Richard has a BA degree in communications from Southern New Hampshire University and works as a residential instructor for a local non-profit organization. His work entails teaching life skills to challenged adolescents with a goal of helping them to live independently. He typically works an overnight shift and proceeds as required to his legislative duties in the morning after work. He is used to getting little sleep. |
Richard immigrated to the United States form Nigeria in 1999, coming directly to Manchester under the sponsorship of Lutheran Social Services. As an activist in his native country he worked on behalf of his fellow citizens to, among other things, stop the severe environmental degradation then occurring due to extensive oil drilling and exploration and, in general, to ensure democratic rule. These activities led, eventually, to his becoming a refugee.
Richard believes deeply in democracy, justice, community and opportunity. If he had to choose one accomplishment in life besides protecting and nurturing his family, it would be to promote educational opportunities for all people.
