InfoRobert R. McMillan, a partner in the law firm of Fischbein, Badillo Wagner and Harding in Melville, New York, was elected on June 15, 2002, to the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Board of Trustees as its first non-physician member.

Mr. McMillan is a member of the boards of directors of Well Choice, Inc. Mr. McMillan was appointed by President George Bush to the Board of the Panama Canal Commission in 1989. Subsequently, he became Chairman of the Commission – the first and only Chairman in the Canal’s history who was not also an official of the Department of Defense.

A regular presence in the media, Mr. McMillan currently co-hosts “Face-Off,” a weekly PBS television program seen throughout the metropolitan New York area, and has appeared on several national television talk shows, O’Reilly Factor, Talk Back Live, and Fox News programs. He is a columnist for Anton Community Newspapers on Long Island, New York, and occasionally writes columns for Newsday.

Among Mr. McMillan’s many accomplishments, he served as a corporate officer of Avon Products, Inc., from 1968 to 1986, where, among other responsibilities, he ran the Asia-Pacific Profit Center. In 1987, he founded the Long Island Housing Partnership Inc., which builds and facilitates the construction of affordable housing. He served as its chairman until 2001.

A member of numerous government, community and private sector commissions and boards, Mr. McMillan was appointed by Governor George Pataki to serve on the New York State Task Force on Local Government Reform and is the current Chairman of the SUNY College at Old Westbury Foundation. He served as an Honor Graduate Attorney in the Anti-Trust Division of the US Department Justice, as Counsel to US Senator Kenneth B. Keating, and as Special Assistant to Richard M. Nixon prior to his presidency. His service also includes the National Advisory Board of Fannie Mae, the Long Island Power Authority and President Reagan’s Advisory Committee on Women’s Business Ownership. He was an advisor to the US Delegation of Consumer Policy Meetings of OECD and was a member of the New York Sate Commission on Powers of Local Government (Wagner Commission).

A recipient of many humanitarian awards, Mr. McMillan has been honored most recently with the Excellence in Leadership Award of the Helen Keller Services for the Blind, the Humanitarian Award of the Alzheimer’s Association, the Human Services Award of Transitional Services-New York, the Human Relations Award of the American Jewish Committee, the Distinguished Leadership Award of Long Island Business News, the 50th Anniversary Honoree of the Association for the Help of Retarded Children, and the Old Westbury College Medal for Global Leadership.

Mr. McMillan received his Juris Doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1960 after completing his undergraduate work at Adelphi University. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal while serving in the US Army in Korea.

Mr. McMillan is married to Phoebe Parker McMillan, and is the father of three children.
