InfoBIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I was born on March 14, 1930 in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northeastern Penna. My mother was from Austria. She died when I was 18 months old. I had the good fortune to be raised by my father, a coal miner, who was born in Sicily, and by my grandmother and grandfather who were also from Sicily. Consequently, it was necessary for me to speak Italian if I wanted to eat, so I grew up speaking both English and Italian.

My father fought with the Allies in the Italian Army during World War I, and when he came to the United States he inspired his sons to duty and honor by serving one's country in its time of need. My older brother Chris served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and later in the Army, my next oldest brother Nicholas served with the Marines in the Pacific during that same war, my older brother Salvatore served in the Marine Corps during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts and is buried in Arlington cemetery.

I am a veteran having served in the Air Force during the latter part of the Korean War, although I was not called into combat. I grew up knowing the meaning of sacrifice at an early age. At age 14, my neighbor Michael Saitta was killed during the invasion of Normandy, and my cousin died during the invasion at Anzio. I remember seeing quite a few "Gold Stars" hanging in neighbors' windows, which meant that a son or daughter was killed in action. A silver star meant a son or daughter was wounded in action. To this day, I vividly can recall that my neighbor, Mrs. Weir, had a gold star in her window which I gazed at every day on my way to football practice. Such are memories, and such were my heroes and heroines, such as Mrs. Weir and her son, Mrs. Saitta and her son, and my cousin, and my neighbors who also paid the utlitmate sacrifice for my freedoms.

Political Background

As the Brookline, N.H. Democratic town chairman, I have been involved in helping to elect Democratic candidates for state and local offices. I am trying to clean up the election process in New Hampshire. In 1998, I caused the state police to shut down an election while in progress. It resumed only after the Attorney General's office had been assured of election law compliance. I also defended in public meetings, the right of the Democratic party to insist on the following of state voting regulations regarding town, state and federal elections.

As a result of my efforts, elections in my town have been above reproach. My past political experiences include running for office in New Hampshire in many state and federal elections including governor, congress, and president of the United States. Unfortunately, in all my runs for office, my first priority was to support my family and therefore I lacked the proper time and financial resources required for a successful run. Nevertheless, I made a difference in the 1974 election as a minor candidate for the U.S. Senate by causing a tie between the contenders of the two major parties (I ran as an independent that year). It was the closest U.S. Senate race in history in which the winner won by two votes (a virtual tie), and required a new election.

So don't let anyone tell you "your vote doesn't make a difference".In 1996, in the Democratic Presidential Primary, I came in third with over six hundred votes in a small state against an opponent who had the power and publicity that goes with the office of the President. For someone who worked for a living, it was no contest against an incumbent President with millions of dollars worth of campaign funds at his disposal, but I did manage to present to the voters my concern for the social security system and how the Congress is misappropriating the funds in that system. In view of my loss, I still supported the Democratic Party and still support Democratic candidates from local to federal offices, unless of course, they violate the principles of the Democratic Party.

Pres. Truman once said words to this effect:

"Lobbyists have their representatives - and they are in the Congress. The only lobbyist the people have - is the President. Woe to this country if the President is beholden to the lobbyists."

When you vote for President, are you voting for someone who will be YOUR lobbyist, or are you voting for someone who will be THEIR lobbyist, THEIR meaning everyone else's lobbyist but yours. If we want the 21st century to be a repeat of the twentieth, we should continue to vote for the elitists. If we want to change the course of politics and purge the system of the corrupting nature that big time money plays in the political process, we will vote our conscience.
