| Info | Jerry Demings is a native of Orlando and he and his twin brother are the youngest of five siblings. He is married to Chief Val Demings of the Orlando Police Department and they have three sons-adult twins and one son who attends high school in Orlando.
Jerry attended Orange County Public Schools and graduated with honors from Jones High School in 1977. He later obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Florida State University. He also obtained his Master of Business Administration degree from Orlando College (Florida Metropolitan University) where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Jerry served 21 years with the Orlando Police Department and was appointed Police Chief by Mayor Glenda E. Hood in December of 1998. During his four-year tenure as Police Chief, Orlando experienced reductions in crime each year.
In October 2002, Orange County Mayor Richard T. Crotty appointed Jerry as the Public Safety Director for Orange County Government. Jerry took on the additional task of serving as the Interim Jail Director from December 2006 through July 2007.
Jerry was also part of the Policy Group that managed the response and recovery efforts of the three hurricanes that impacted Orange County in 2004. During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Jerry traveled to Mississippi with Sheriff Beary and others as part of the Katrina recovery efforts- gaining invaluable experience in managing natural disasters.
