InfoMcLAUGHLIN, Charles Francis, a Representative from Nebraska; born in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebr., June 19, 1887; attended the public schools; was graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1908 and from the law department of Columbia University, New York City in 1910; was admitted to the bar in 1910 and commenced practice in Omaha, Nebr.; special master in chancery in Federal Court 1916-1918; during the First World War served as captain of the Three Hundred and Forty-seventh Field Artillery, Ninety-first Division, American Expeditionary Forces, until his discharge, April 30, 1919; major in the Officers’ Reserve Corps, 1919-1921; delegate to the Nebraska State constitutional convention in 1920; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth and to the three succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1935-January 3, 1943); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1942 to the Seventy-eighth Congress; member of the American-Mexican Claims Commission, Washington, D.C., 1943-1947; member of the Indian Claims Commission from April 5, 1947, until November 14, 1949; took the oath of office November 15, 1949, as a United States district judge for the District of Columbia, became a senior United States district court judge for the District of Columbia on December 31, 1964, and continued to hear cases until June 1974; resided in Washington, D.C., where he died February 5, 1976; interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, Md.
