| Info | Ian Groll was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. From a young age The Rocky Mountain Range was his playground where is parents infused in their children the love of the great alpine outdoors.
Ian has expressed his love for nature and the earth through his varied outdoor pursuits over the years: ice climbing, back country skiing and hiking, cycling, and, his most loved activity: sport climbing. It is this sport that his taken him to the many geographical wonders of North America to experience the "rock" and local culture
through rock climbing.
Ian's exploration into Theatre Arts in his early twenties along with his naturally resounding voice (and opinion), gave his stage presence, even today, a focused, clear and confident air.
Ian pursued his Degree in Photographic Arts at the Alberta College of Art and Design graduating in 1991. He continues to practice his craft as a commericial photographer today.
The continued lure of the rock and a new-found love of teaching met Ian at climbing gyms four years ago. Lately, you will find him teaching youth clubs, as well as adults, the art of sport climbing at some of Calgary's more reknown climbing gyms. His approach is technical intertwined with his own philosophy of body, mind and spirit health. Oh, yes, it's not Ian if a good dose of humour isn't part of the teaching.
