Info | HENDERSON, James Henry Dickey, a Representative from Oregon; born near Salem, Ky., July 23, 1810; moved to Missouri Territory in 1817; attended the public schools; learned the art of printing; entered the ministry and was pastor of a church in Washington County, Pa., 1843-1851; returned to Missouri and published a literary magazine; moved to Oregon in 1852 and settled in Yamhill County; moved to Eugene, Lane County, and engaged in agricultural pursuits, specializing in the raising of fruits; superintendent of the public schools of Lane County in 1859; elected as a Republican to the Thirty-ninth Congress (March 4, 1865-March 3, 1867); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1866; returned to Eugene, Oreg., and engaged in agricultural pursuits; also preached, lectured, and wrote for periodicals; died in Eugene, Oreg., December 13, 1885; interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
