InfoMichael P. Hsing was born and raised in Taiwan, where he graduated from National Taiwan University with a degree in Foreign Languages and Literature. He and his wife Tammy came to the United States in 1983, allowing Michael to earn a Master of Science from the New York Institute of Technology. Michael worked for 15 years at the renowned Bell Labs, becoming the Technical Director of Spherion Technology. Currently he functions as the Director of Information Technology Compliance at CIBER, Inc. He is an alumnus of the celebrated Leadership New Jersey program and also serves on the Board of Directors for the Leadership Somerset program. Michael and Tammy have two sons, Arthur and Brian.

In his first bid for public office, Michael Hsing was successfully elected in 2001 as a Town Councilman for Bridgewater Township New Jersey. He is the first Asian-American in Bridgewater Township history to serve in that capacity. In 2005 Michael was elected Council President, and subsequently reelected for a second Council term. In addition to holding these posts, Michael has contributed to the township as a member of the Bridgewater Township Zoning Board of Adjustment, the Bridgewater Township Planning Board, the Bridgewater-Raritan School District Technology Committee, and as the creator and webmaster of the Bridgewater Township website.

On the county level, Michael was elected by the Somerset County Governing Officials Association to serve as the President of that organization in 2007. He currently acts as the Bridgewater Liaison to the Somerset County Regional Center Partnership, and has participated as a member of the Information Technology Council of the Somerset County Business Partnership, the Somerset County Smart Growth Steering Committee, and as a contributor at the Somerset County Economic Development Summit of 1998. Michael was named one of the "99 People to Watch - The Movers and Shakers of 1999 [in Somerset County]," by the Courier-News and as one of the "12 Most Influential Chinese-Americans in New Jersey," by the Sino Monthly Magazine in 2006 and 2007.

Michael is motivated by a passion for serving the public, and has devoted both his time and talents to bettering the community. A selection of his service record includes Charter President of the Bridgewater Lions Club, Chairman of the Somerset County Cultural Diversity Coalition, Chairman of the Somerset County Asian-American Cultural Festival, Co-Chair of the Bridgewater Township Human Relations Committee, and panelist to the Fourth Annual New Jersey Human Relations Commission Leadership Conference. Michael founded and chaired the Somerset County Asian-American Heritage Month Celebration Committee. He also enjoys teaching at the Chinese School, and has instructed a 9th grade Chinese Language Class and a Shaolin Wushu (martial arts) Class.

Michael Hsing has done much to support not only his local government, but also his party as a whole. An indication of his influence within the Republican Party, Michael was selected as a Delegate to the Republican National Convention representing the State of New Jersey in 2000 and then as Secretary of the New Jersey Delegation to the Convention in 2004. As a well respected member of the Asian-American community, Michael was appointed in 2004 as Co-Chair of the BushCheney Asian-Americans New Jersey State Coalition. He and his wife were invited to the White House in both 2005 and 2006, as banquet guests of the President and the First Lady.
