Info | Bernard Makuza is the current Prime Minister of Rwanda. He has been Prime Minister since 8 March 2000. An ethnic Hutu, Makuza was a member of the Democratic Republican Movement (MDR) before allegations were made that the party promoted genocide. He resigned membership before being appointed Prime Minister, and now claims to belong to no party.
Prior to his appointment as prime minister, he was the Rwandan ambassador to Burundi, and then immediately before his appointment to Prime Minister, ambassador to Germany. Makuza was appointed by former president Pasteur Bizimungu after the resignation of former prime minister Pierre-CĂ©lestin Rwigema, who had been heavily criticized in the Rwandan press and by other parliamentarians.
He remained at the head of a new government named on March 8, 2008, which was composed of 21 ministers and six secretaries of state.
