Info | Mr. McGahn currently serves as the Managing Member of McGahn & Associates, PLLC. Serves as Counsel for the National Republican Congressional Committee. Earlier in his career, he served as an attorney at Patton Boggs.
Mr. McGahn received his B.A. from Notre Dame in 1991, majoring in History with a second major in Computer Applications. He obtained his J.D. from the Widener University School of Law in 1994, and is currently obtaining an L.L.M. from the Georgetown University Law Center. Although a member of the Litigation Group, the vast majority of Mr. McGahn's practice focuses on political law, ranging from campaign finance and election law questions to Congressional ethics investigations.
Mr. McGahn currently represents candidates, PACs, political parties, corporations, trade associations and vendors. He has assisted approximately fifty campaigns comply with Federal and State election laws, and represents campaigns before the Federal Election Commission. His representations have included Presidential campaigns as well as the campaigns of several current Members of Congress. In addition, Mr. McGahn provides advice on Congressional and Executive ethics rules. Mr. McGahn served as counsel and director for ballot access in New Jersey for the 1996 Dole-Kemp campaign.
Mr. McGahn's practice also focuses on intellectual property matters, including litigation, commercial transactions, as well as administrative and legislative affairs. Mr. McGahn has drafted and negotiated license and purchase agreements of computer hardware and software systems, including agreements regarding the provision of Year 2000 corrective services. He also has lobbied on copyright matters, including proposed legislation and international WIPO treaties concerning copyright law and the Internet. Mr. McGahn has published an article entitled "Copyright Infringement of Protected Computer Software: An Analytical Method to Determine Substantial Similarity," which appeared in Rutgers Computer & Technology Law Journal (1995).
Before joining Patton Boggs in 1995, Mr. McGahn served as a clerk for the Honorable Charles R. Alexander of the Court of Common Pleas of Clarion County, Pennsylvania. While in law school, Mr. McGahn served as a Certified Legal Intern in the Lebanon County District Attorney's Office, Pennsylvania, where he prosecuted criminal cases at trial as lead prosecutor on misdemeanors and asset forfeiture actions, and served as second chair on felonies, including homicides.
Mr. McGahn is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
