Info | DICKINSON, Edward Fenwick, a Representative from Ohio; born in Fremont, Sandusky County, Ohio, January 21, 1829; attended the public schools; was graduated from St. Xavier College, Cincinnati, Ohio; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Fremont, Ohio; prosecuting attorney of Sandusky County, Ohio, from 1852 until his resignation in 1854; during the Civil War served in the Union Army as a lieutenant; promoted to captain and served as regimental quartermaster of Company G, Eighth Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry; served as probate judge of Sandusky County 1866-1869; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-first Congress (March 4, 1869-March 3, 1871); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1870 to the Forty-second Congress; resumed the practice of his profession; elected mayor of Fremont in 1871, 1873, and 1875; again served as probate judge of Sandusky County from 1877 to 1879 and from 1885 until his death; died in Fremont, Ohio, August 25, 1891; interment in Oakwood Cemetery.
