| Info | He became an official Republican in 1984 when he declared his candidacy for Representative in Congress in the 11th Congressional District. As a conservative thinking self-employed businessman, he was surprised that the Democratic Congressman, Frank Annunzio, voted like a radical leftist in Congress but talked the conservative line back in his district. The 11th was a district that Ronald Reagan carried in the 1980 election.
At this time, Dan Schmitt was thirty-five years old, owned a great house, and sent his two children to Catholic school. He had owned Dan's Coffee Cup, his business for fourteen years at this point and had thousands of great customers. In fact, all his advanced education came from this group of customers. After he lost the Republican primary by one-thousand votes, he joined the newly elected 45th Ward Committeeman, Fred Harmon, to promote the Republican party on the northwest side of Chicago.
In 1986, Dan became the first public access television producer in Chicago. He started the weekly television show, "The Other Side". Seeing that Republican candidates did not receive any television coverage, this show highlighted these Republicans leading up to the primary and election in 1986. In 1987, Dan threw his hat in the ring and ran for Alderman in the 45th Ward as a Republican. To say the least, he got murdered by the three Democrats running. Dan decided at this point to never run again. He stated, the only races I will get in from here on out will be races that I can win. He concentrated on motorcycle racing and producing his weekly television show, "Team Chicago Challenge". Additionally, between 1988 and 1989, Dan produced a weekly television show with a good number of Republican Ward Committeemen called "The Republican House Pub". This show featured candidates and various Republican Committeemen.
Team Chicago began racing the WERA National Endurance Series in 1994 and won the National Championship in 1999 and 2002. The 1,000th episode was produced in 2008. Over the years, the Team Chicago Yamaha race bike has had Republican candidates' names on the fairing. In 2004, one side of the gas tank had George Bush's name with Alan Keyes' name on the other side. Both sides of the bike stated, "Vote Republican". In 2008, the Tony Peraica for State's Attorney signage dominated the racing motorcycle.
Dan approached Lee Roupas, the newly elected Cook County Republican Chairman and made arrangements to begin to produce the newest Republican television show, "What's Cookin with the Republicans?". This show featured a good number of Republican candidates and committeemen and it reached 600,000 households in Chicagoland.
Why run in 2010? Why run for Governor?
Just who is out there to protect the middleclass in this country? When the price of a gallon of gasoline was over $4.00, the only statement that came from the Republicans and the radio talk-show hosts was this, �the world market determines the price, worldwide demand.� Well this is just baloney. There was a ton of unethical activities that drove the price of oil up. When the mortgage sellers were ripping off the public and the �investment bankers� were bundling these overvalued mortgages, just who was watching the �chicken coop�? There was a war going on, but somebody needed to be looking out for the folks at home. When the credit card companies were charging outrageous rates on the average folks, who stood up to these thieves? Just who will take on the Illinois Tollway Authority and that band of incompetents?
When the middleclass is wiped out with higher taxes, inflation and more criminal activities by the business community, just who is going to build the future? Who is going to fix your toilet, your car, your highways, etc.? Who is going to teach your children? Who will protect you from enemies both foreign and domestic?
It was Teddy Roosevelt who took on the monopolies. It was Richard Nixon who ended the War in Vietnam. It was Ronald Reagan who ended the Cold War. It was George Bush, 41, who kept the flow of commerce open and It was George Bush, 43, who met the challenge of the Islamic terrorists. Who will protect the middleclass from this gang in Washington today?
