InfoMatthew Dirk Frandsen was born August 1, 1959 in Ogden, Utah. Matthew and his two sisters come from a working class Ogden family. Educated in the public school system, Matthew studied engineering at Weber State University and the University of Utah, and went on to earn his Masters Degree at Villanova University in Philadelphia.

As a professionally licensed control systems engineer, Mr. Frandsen's professional work history has been challenging and varied. He worked and lived in the Honolulu, Philadelphia, and Seattle areas before returning to Utah in 1995. He served in the Nuclear Testing Department at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, as well as working on America's North Slope Oil reserve in Alaska, helping to solve this country's energy needs. Back in Utah, Mr. Frandsen became involved in the commercial development of recycled motor oils, a process that has been expanded to include sites in the Middle East, Europe, and the Orient. His focus on the issues at hand has kept him in demand as petroleum controls consultant for the past 14 years. His cabin headquarters, located in Huntsville, has a completely engineered solar electric energy system.

Mr. Frandsen's experiences have prepared him to be a strong legislator. His leadership skills were honed as a young man in the Air Force's Reserve Officer Training Program at McCord AFB, Washington. His engineering studies, a discipline that requires asking questions, analyzing and solving problems has prepared him to consider efficiencies of programs, be they tax reform or welfare reform. Working with nuclear power prepared him in military power and strict regulatory procedures. With today's demands on our Washington legislators, his experience with powerfully new technologies bodes well for public safety.
