Info | Martin D. Baker, Republican candidate for United States Congress, Missouri First District, was born and raised in the southeast Missouri city of Sikeston where he attended Sikeston Public Schools and graduated from Sikeston High School, Class of 1988.
After graduation, Martin attended both Ricks College (now Brigham Young University-Idaho), in Rexburg, Idaho and the University of Missouri at Columbia (UMC) where he pursued his passion by studying Political Science and Criminal Justice, with a minor in American History . During his time at UMC, Martin volunteered for numerous political campaigns.
And as a UMC student, Martin Baker served two terms as a Student Senator, representing his residence hall in the Associated Students of the University of Missouri (ASUM). As an ASUM senator, Martin was a strenuous advocate for the rights of the underrepresented and stood for both principle and policy. In 1996, driven by his strong family values, Martin left college to focus on his family and became a new parent.
Martin Baker continued to follow the political path by volunteering as a consultant and recruiter for numerous political campaigns on the local and national level in both Utah and his home state of Missouri. While working in the private sector, in 2000 Martin, served as the Davis County Utah Coordinator for a candidate's presidential campaign . Subsequently, Baker went on to campaigns on both the local and national levels in Nebraska and finally back in his home state of Missouri where in 2007 was selected as the Missouri delegate for the National Black Republican Association. In 2008 Martin sought the Republican Nomination for United States Congress in Missouri District Five where he placed a respectable third with over 2500 votes. Motivated by a deep sense of pride and love of the state of Missouri, Martin has chosen to seek election closer to his roots in the First District. Due in large part to numerous relatives within Missouri, Martin Baker has and will continue to maintain strong roots in the time honored principles and traditions of Missouri. Martin Baker is eager to bring those traditional American principles back to the First Congressional District of Missouri.
