InfoRep. John Mayfield, a Democrat, represents part of Jackson County, including parts of Independence, Sugar Creek, Buckner, Sibley and Fort Osage (District 20), in the Missouri House of Representatives. He was elected to his first two-year term in November 2012.

In addition to his legislative duties, Rep. Mayfield is employed as a bank analyst. He also served as the chairman of the Independence Human Relations Commission, a position to which he has twice been appointed by the Independence City Council. Representative Mayfield is also a Democratic Committeeman for Jackson County.

Rep. Mayfield serves on the Fort Osage Project Graduation Committee and served as treasurer of the organization from 2007 to 2008. He also has served on the Fort Osage Patrons Advisory Committee and the Independence School District Review Committee. He was appointed by the Independence City Council to serve on the Citizens Advisory Committee on Public Safety in 2003-2004.

Rep. Mayfield is a member of the First Baptist Church in Buckner. He also is a member of the National Rifle Association and has been involved in fundraising efforts for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization.

Rep. Mayfield is a graduate of Fort Osage High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from William Jewell College and a Master’s degree in Divinity from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Born in Kansas City and raised in Independence, Rep. Mayfield currently resides in the Independence.
