Info | CORKER, Stephen Alfestus, a Representative from Georgia; born near Waynesboro, Burke County, Ga., May 7, 1830; attended the common schools; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Waynesboro, Ga.; also engaged in agricultural pursuits; entered the Confederate Army in 1861, and served as captain of Company A, Third Georgia Regiment; resumed the practice of law in Waynesboro, Ga.; member of the State house of representatives; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-first Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the House declaring Charles H. Prince not entitled to the seat and served from December 22, 1870, to March 3, 1871; resumed the practice of law in Waynesboro, Ga., and died there on October 18, 1879; interment in the Old Cemetery, Waynesboro, Ga.
