InfoLet me introduce myself: I’m Nicholas H. (Nick) Carter and I was born on December 11th 1963. I am the youngest of nine children of Herb and Dorothy Carter. I have 3 brothers: Mike, Pat and Dan. Mike is a mechanical engineer, Pat (a Vietnam veteran Marine) owns a small business and Dan is a real estate agent. I have five sisters, Mary, a school teacher, Louise, who owns an office supply store, Ann, who is a school teacher, Samantha, (who I call Maggie), is a school teacher and Claire who is also a school teacher.

In 1970, when I was 6 years old, our family moved from Texas to Casper, Wyoming. My father was working for Exxon and came to Wyoming to open the Highland uranium mine outside of Glenrock. I attended First grade at Saint Anthony’s elementary and went through 5th grade at Southridge Elementary. At the end of 5th grade our family moved to Gillette because my father got transferred to work at the Rawhide coal mine outside of Gillette.

I graduated from Campbell County High School in 1982. I then worked my way through college and law school with an array of jobs: pouring concrete, roughnecking, cleaning horse stalls, delivering pizzas, and many other occupations to finance my education. I graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1986 and Law School from the University of Wyoming in 1990.

In 1985 I had my lovely daughter, Amanda, with my former wife. Amanda is currently a Senior in college.

In 1990 I took and passed the Wyoming Bar examination and began my career as an attorney in Gillette. In 1991 I opened my own law office, Carter Law Office P.C.(more or less out of my backpack) and have operated it ever since. I have had a successful practice and have tried at least 150 jury trials in my career. I have had success with Wyoming juries in large part because I am plain spoken and to the point. I have a common sense approach to trials and honestly discuss the issues of a case with juries because I know that the working people that end up on juries cannot be "schmoozed" but rather are willing to listen to a well reasoned point of view. I plan to take that same approach to this campaign.

From 1995 to 1998 I was a special Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. I was hired primarily to try cases for the Campbell County Attorneys Office while I maintained my private practice.

Since my father was a Republican and my mother a Democrat, the political discussions at our dinner table were always lively. I have always been a Democrat at heart but have been in the past a registered Republican so that I could vote in the local races that rarely if ever had a democratic challenger.

I have been involved in local charitable organizations and have financially supported the local community college, the local symphony, the local Arts guild (AVA), the United Way, and many other organizations. I provide scholarships to local students that have ambition to further their education.

In 2004 I received my private pilot’s license and own a single engine airplane. I am a passionate basketball player and also enjoy waterskiing, golf, softball and just about anything that requires keeping score. I enjoy talking about the issues of the day and learning all sides of a debate.

Thanks for taking the time to read this biography. I sincerely hope we can visit in person.
