Info | born in Flinton, Cambria County, Pa., August 4, 1927; received primary and secondary education in Akron, Ohio, and Jackson, Mich.; graduated from the University of Michigan with A.B. and M.A. degrees in 1950 and 1951, and, in 1957, a Ph.D. degree in speech and education; served in the Maritime Service and United States Army; fourteen years on the staff at Wayne State University as associate professor of speech, and lecturer in the University of Michigan-Wayne State University Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations; member of the State of Michigan Legislature, 1965-1966; elected as a Republican to the Ninetieth and to the four succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1967-January 3, 1977); was not a candidate in 1976 for reelection but was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the United States Senate; director of public affairs, U.S. Steel Corporation, 1977-1980; director of programs and seminars, American Enterprise Institute, 1981 to present; is a resident of Ann Arbor, Mich.
