Sweet 1913-1917; United States customs appraiser for Michigan 1917-1922; during the First World War was manager of the War Trade Board at Detroit, chief inspector of purchases in Michigan for the Medical Corps of the War Department, and recruiting officer of the aviation division in Detroit; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1923-March 3, 1925); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1924 to the Sixty-ninth Congress; affiliated with the Republican Party in 1926; engaged in the real-estate business; elected as a Republican to the Seventieth, Seventy-first, and Seventy-second Congresses (March 4, 1927-March 3, 1933); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1932 to the Seventy-third Congress; engaged in executive capacity with a manufacturing company until his retirement in 1948; died in Detroit, Mich., April 23, 1962; interment in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
