AmySue Mertens is committed to restoring our respect for state government.
A DRAMATIC, FUNDAMENTAL CHANGE
AmySue Mertens knows that change does not come easy in Springfield. After working in non-profits and advocating for funding for many important issues that need to go before the state legislature year after year, she knows that it is time for common sense, and greater respect for the voters. It is time for a Democratic State Senator who has the courage to work on behalf of the people.
AmySue Mertens has the courage:
to provide long-term, dedicated funding to education
to stand up for our right to a safe, affordable place to live
to address disparities in our judicial system
to monitor the spending of our tax dollars
to challenge the status quo.
FROM CHICAGO, FOR CHICAGO
AmySue grew up in Chicago, attended George B. Armstrong Elementary School and Lane Tech High School, and later earned her Master's Degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She both lives and works on the Near West Side.
She is active in her community. AmySue is an elected member of Whitney Young High School's Local School Council where she serves as the Council's Vice-Chair, and Chairs the Budget/Technology Committee. She also works for her community through the West Loop Community Organization (WLCO) where she serves on the Parks Advisory Committee and is active in transportation issues.
