InfoCongressman Bud Shuster is a twelve term Member of the Congress of the United States who serves as the Chairman of the Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, which includes jurisdiction over highways, transit, railroads, aviation, water resources, economic development, Merchant Marine, Coast Guard, and public buildings and grounds. He has been a principal author of much of America's transportation legislation during the past two decades, which includes the Surface Transportation Act of 1982, the Surface Transportation and Uniform Relocation Assistance Act of 1987, and the landmark Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA), the most historic transportation legislation since President Eisenhower and the Congress created the Interstate Highway System in 1956. ISTEA will complete the interstate system and launch the nation into a new era of transportation.
Congressman Bud Shuster has chaired the National Transportation Policy Commission. As Chairman of the Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, he is a public trustee of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the National Symphony Orchestra.

A former Ranking Member of the Select Intelligence Committee, Congressman Shuster has been reappointed to the Committee and will serve on its Subcommittees on Human Intelligence, Analysis & Counterintelligence, and Technical & Tactical Intelligence.

He has served on the Budget Committee and its Defense Task Force; the Education & Labor Committee and its Subcommittee on Higher Education, as Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, and as a delegate to NATO's North Atlantic Assembly.

He is the only Pennsylvanian in over half a century to win both Republican and Democratic Congressional nominations seven times.

Congressman Bud Shuster is the recipient of numerous awards, including: "Watchdog of the Treasury Award" for his efforts to control government spending; "Guardian of Small Business Award" for his efforts on behalf of the free enterprise economy; the "Golden Age Hall of Fame Award" for his efforts on behalf of senior citizens; the "National Security Leadership Award" for his support of a strong national defense; the Appalachian Regional Commission's "Gold Medallion" for his support for Federal programs to aid the region; and special awards for the Pennsylvania Academy of Science and the American Society of Highway Engineers.

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he was named "Outstanding Senior" of his class, Congressman Shuster holds a MBA fromDuquesne University and a Ph.D. in management and economics from the American University, and served as a U.S. Army Infantry Officer and Counterintelligence Agent. Prior to his election to the U.S. Congress, Bud Shuster was an early participant in the electronic computer industry, being involved in the installation of some of the first large scale UNIVAC computers in America.

He was Vice President of RCA's Electronic Computer Division at the age of 33; becoming Chairman of a computer terminal company and founder of a computer software company at the age of 36.

He is author of the award winning book "Believing in America" (Morrow, 1983, Paperback Edition - Berkely, 1984) and the only Pennsylvanian ever elected to the U.S. Capitol's prestigious Chowder & Marching Society. Congressman Shuster resides on a farm in Bedford County, Pennsylvania with his wife, Patricia, and family when not in Washington.
