Smith and served from November 20, 1944, to January 3, 1945; was not a candidate for election to the full term; resumed the newspaper publishing business as publisher of the Anderson Independent and Daily Mail of South Carolina; founder of a television station and owner of two radio stations; publisher of “Quote” Magazine; resided in Anderson, S.C. where he died February 25, 1980; interment in a mausoleum, Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
