InfoI am Robert Pidcock, and I am seeking the Democratic nomination for election to Congress from New Mexico's First Congressional District, which encompasses nearly all of Albuquerque and the immediate surrounding area. I have lived in Albuquerque for 21 years.

I am 50 years old and graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1989. I have never before sought political office. I have spent the past 18 years building a law practice focusing on civil litigation by helping New Mexicans who had been taken advantage of receive justice. I have stepped away from my law practice to run for public office.

I grew up on a small, family farm and was raised to believe in the simple values of hard work and helping other people. My parents believed that my four brothers and I should learn a trade, something that we could fall back on. Nobody in my family had ever graduated from college, and my parents didn't have the means to get us there, so we were sent to a vocational school for our last two years of high school. I was trained in electrical and electronics repair.

I left the family farm at the age of 18 to join the U.S. Army and served my country for three years as a way to earn my way through college under the G.I. Bill. I am the only veteran in the Democratic Party's primary race and believe that my military experience gives me credibility to speak about military issues and a unique perspective regarding the use of armed forces. It would be difficult for someone without military experience to understand the sacrifice that is required by the young men and women serving our country today. Members of the military and veterans have a difficult time respecting politicians who have never served and have no idea what it is like to walk in the boots of a soldier.

After serving in the U.S. Army, I worked for approximately four years in the semi-conductor industry, in facilities similar to Intel in Rio Rancho. I started attending evening college classes in government and decided that I wanted to become a lawyer. I knew that it would take too long to earn my college degree part-time in the evenings, so I decided to enroll in school full-time and supported myself by working in the evenings as a janitor, laborer, loading-dock worker and security guard. I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin in government, with a minor in economics, in 1986, and then graduated from the UNM Law School.
