InfoSharon is proud to represent the neighbourhood she grew up in with her brother Phil, and where she is now raising her own boys, Zach and Heiko. Growing up Sharon attended Buchanan, Hedges and Silver Heights schools and attended St. Charles and John XXIII parishes.

From Winnipeg, Sharon moved to Paris to study and returned to Canada to complete degrees at the University of Manitoba, University of Victoria and York University. She has also taught at the University of Victoria, York University, Brandon University and the University of Manitoba. Her work has been published and presented in Canada and internationally.

The past decade has been spent working both as an educator and a decolonization scholar, focusing on the art, history and gender relations of First Peoples in Canada and working for social justice for women and Aboriginal peoples. This has been done through teaching in the Joint Baccalaureate Nursing Program and the Inner City Social Work Program at the University of Manitoba and in designing and teaching the introductory courses for the Gender and Women’s Studies Program at Brandon University.

Sharon also brings her experience as an activist and a mother to her new position, having been on parent councils of her son’s schools and having been involved with social justice and environmental groups like the University of Manitoba Recycling and Environmental Group and the Western Canada Wilderness Committee.

Sharon looks forward to working with the families, seniors and community groups in Kirkfield Park to ensure that we continue to grow and develop this wonderful neighbourhood as one the best places to live in Manitoba. This is a strong community with great schools, and so many things can be done to ensure that it only gets better.
