InfoGardner, has been a judge since May 1981 when he was nominated by former Gov. Dick Thornburgh. He was elected to his first 10-year term that November.

Gardner, of Upper Milford Township, is the second most experienced judge in Lehigh County.

Gardner graduated from Harvard Law School (1965), Yale University (1962) and Emmaus High School.

Before becoming a judge, Gardner was a partner with his father and sister in an Allentown law firm and was an associate in a Philadelphia law firm.

From 1977 to 1981, he was first assistant district attorney in Lehigh County, and from 1972 to 1977, he was an assistant district attorney.

Gardner was solicitor to the county treasurer from 1971 to 1977.

For more than three years, he served on active duty with the U.S. Navy. He has served 25 years in the Naval Reserve, where he is a captain.

Gardner was a commanding officer of the Naval Reserve Trial Judiciary Activity, a national military unit made up of 14 Naval Reserve military judges, who preside over active duty military courts- martial.

He recently received the Meritorious Service Medal.

Capt. Ron H. Garvin of Washington, D.C., the chief judge of the Navy-Marine Corps Trial Judiciary, awarded Gardner the medal at a ceremony in Norfolk.

No longer a military judge as of Oct. 1, Gardner is a lawyer in the Reserve. He received the medal for "outstanding meritorious service as a military judge while serving with the Naval Reserve Trial Judiciary from October 1985 to October 1991."
