Info | KNOX, Samuel, a Representative from Missouri; born in Blandford, Mass., on March 21, 1815; attended the common schools; was graduated from Williams College, Williamstown, Mass., in 1836 and from the law department of Harvard University in 1838; moved to St. Louis, Mo., in 1838; was admitted to the bar and practiced; city counselor in 1845; successfully contested as an Unconditional Unionist the election of Francis P. Blair, Jr., to the Thirty-eighth Congress and served from June 10, 1864, to March 3, 1865; unsuccessful for reelection in 1864 to the Thirty-ninth Congress; resumed the practice of law in St. Louis, Mo.; returned to Blandford, Mass., where he died March 7, 1905; interment in Peabody Cemetery, Springfield, Mass.
