InfoJosh Lanier approved the formation of an exploratory committee for the U.S. Senate because he agrees with the majority of Georgians that the nation is off course; and his life experiences – as a fifth-generation Georgian, war veteran, Senate staff member, association leader and businessman – provide a knowledge that patriots are needed now to help make the changes that can get America back on track.

He has also set very high standards for the committee, including being the national example for a federal Clean Campaign, because he knows that big money has polarized the political process and blocked change and progress.

Born Ramee Josh Lanier on August 12, 1952 in Statesboro, Josh Lanier is the second son of Josh and Faye Lanier. His father was a probation officer, World War II veteran, civic leader, and local merchant. His mother was a homemaker, seamstress, and helped manage the family businesses. His brother, Van, is a business consultant in Herndon, Virginia.

Growing up in Statesboro, Lanier's first job was paperboy for the Atlanta Journal, and he held a full-time job in high school as a night data processing supervisor. He played on the Statesboro High School football team as well as in the concert band. He was elected State President of the Georgia YMCA clubs, appointed to the Governor's Youth Council, and won the Callaway Leadership Award.

Lanier enlisted in the Army on his 18th birthday in 1970. He served with the 509th Radio Research Group in Viet Nam, where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, several distinguished Unit Citations and a Top Secret/Crypto Security clearance.

Upon his return from Viet Nam, Lanier was assigned to Army Security Agency headquarters in Washington, D. C. and, upon honorable discharge from the Army, joined the staff of Senator Herman E. Talmadge (D-GA). He specialized in military and veterans issues for Talmadge and was selected to a small group of Congressional staff to visit Viet Nam in 1974 to assess the status of the on-going war.

Lanier went on to serve as an association executive and journalist over the next ten years in Washington. He served as Director of Congressional Relations for the National Cable Television Association, Washington Editor for CATV Weekly Magazine, Director of Public Affairs for the Manufactured Housing Institute and, through an association management firm he founded with former Congressman Robert Leggett (D-CA) in 1979, as Executive Director of the Shellfish Institute and National Insulation Certification Institute.

He was invited to become a Trustee of the Presidential Yacht Trust in 1984 and agreed to serve as its Executive Trustee. Working over the next ten years with the other Trustees, including the chairmen of both national political parties and philanthropic leaders, Lanier launched the former U.S. S. Sequoia on two national tours, secured unanimous passage of a Congressional Resolution endorsing the ship's preservation, led the ship's complete restoration and secured designation of the Sequoia as a National Historic Landmark.

After several years of private consulting with associations and small businesses, Lanier helped found in 1998 LightStream Technologies, a developer of safe technologies for the treatment of water and air that won the 2004 Frost & Sullivan Product Innovation Award. He served for eight years as Vice Chairman and Chief Customer Officer, during which he built a worldwide network of business partners for the company and was a frequent speaker and authority in the U.S., Europe and Asia on water treatment, reuse, and safety standards.

Lanier retired and returned to Statesboro in 2006 to supervise care of his mother. He is currently completing a screenplay in his new career as a writer.

Lanier was named in the 1986 Outstanding Young Men of America and has served on numerous business, association and philanthropic Boards of Directors throughout his career.

He is the proud father of Heather, Brooke, Josh and Robert, and grandfather of Lily and Evan Jacobs and Kyla Jones.

Josh Lanier lives in Statesboro with his wife of 29 years, Lynne, a former ballerina, fitness instructor and avid equestrian and diver.
