Info | McLEAN, James Henry, a Representative from Missouri; born in Ayrshire, Scotland, August 13, 1829; reared in Nova Scotia, Canada; immigrated to the United States in 1842 and settled in Philadelphia, Pa.; employed as a clerk in a drug store; moved to St. Louis, Mo., in 1849, and in the following year to New Orleans, La., to take charge of financial operations of the Lopez expedition to Cuba; returned to St. Louis in 1851; studied medicine and surgery; was graduated from the St. Louis (Mo.) Medical College in 1863 and practiced in St. Louis; elected as a Republican to the Forty-seventh Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Thomas Allen and served from December 15, 1882, to March 3, 1883; died in Dansville, Livingston County, N.Y., August 12, 1886; interment in Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
