Info | JAMESON, John, a Representative from Missouri; born near Mount Sterling, Montgomery County, Ky., March 6, 1802; attended the common schools; moved to Callaway County, Mo., in 1825; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1826 and commenced practice in Fulton, Mo.; held several local offices; member of the State house of representatives 1830-1836 and served as speaker in 1834 and 1836; elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-sixth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Albert G. Harrison and served from December 12, 1839, to March 3, 1841; was not a candidate for renomination in 1840; elected to the Twenty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1843-March 3, 1845); was not a candidate for renomination in 1844; elected to the Thirtieth Congress (March 4, 1847-March 3, 1849); was not a candidate for renomination in 1848; ordained as a minister in the Christian Church; also engaged in agricultural pursuits; served as a captain in the Black Hawk War; died in Fulton, Mo., January 24, 1857; interment in the Jameson family cemetery near Fulton, Mo.
