|Info||Ron Gulke joined the American Independent Party in 1998 after years of active participation in the Republican Party. He currently serves as a member of the A.I.P.'s state executive committee, and was one of the party's 2000 presidential electors. |
Gulke founded and owns R.E.G. Fire Protection, a business he has operated in Fresno County for 23 years. He is active in community service, and church work, and for 18 years taught junior and adult Sunday School.
In 1994, Gulke was a Republican candidate for Congress, gathering 5,400 signatures on petitions (in lieu of filing fees) for his candidacy. He was the first to advocate to Governor Pete Wilson the reduction in vehicle registration fees, now recognized as the largest tax cut in California history.
Gulke became disenchanted with the Republican Party over its failure to press moral issues, and education reform. These are among the concerns he will stress as the American Independent candidate for Governor.
