InfoWithdrew from 2008 MD D1 Republican Primary Congressional race on 12/13/2007 and endorsed St. Sen. Andy Harris.

John grew up in Easton and has been living on the Eastern Shore for over 30 years. Even with his history on the Shore, some locals would call John a "chicken-necker" (an affectionate name given to people from the westernshore by those born and raised on the easternshore) John takes it in stride, smiles and proudly calls the Eastern Shore his home.

In 1990, John received a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Baltimore. John worked part-time as a bartender in Fell's Point and received federal loans in order to get through college. Thereafter, in 1992, John went on to obtain his Master's in Government & Public Administration from the University of Baltimore, graduating with Honors. In 1995, Mr. Walter earned his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School , in Lansing, Michigan. Mr. Walter not only graduated at the top of his class, he was also awarded the American Jurisprudence Award in Scholarly Writing and served with distinction as a Senior Associate Editor of the Thomas M. Cooley Law Review . Mr. Walter was honored to have Rutgers Law School use his Law Review Casenote as supplemental reading for its first year property law students.

After law school, John came back to the Eastern Shore - after only a year, he decided to move to Baltimore in order to get some "big firm" experience. It was John's goal to get as much experience as possible - move back to the Shore - open a law practice and start a family.

John was an associate attorney at the law offices of Leitess, Leitess, & Friedberg, P.C. (Leitess). At Leitess, the caseload consisted primarily of complex commercial litigation. During his time at the firm, Mr. Walter was responsible for extensive research and writing. John became familiar with Federal and State commercial law and obtained extensive experience reviewing and analyzing commercial lending contracts, security agreements, and leases. In 1999, Mr. Walter researched and drafted legal memoranda and argued the legal position for IVTx, Inc ., in the matter of In re Doctors Health, Inc. 98-6-6211-JFS, in the United States Bankruptcy Court. The subsequent published opinion mirrored the position asserted by IVTx, Inc., to the extent that, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, for the first time in Maryland , recognized that State health care laws and public policies affected the "jurisdiction" of the Bankruptcy Courts when considering the implementation of a stay.

In 2000, John worked as a trial lawyer at the law offices of Saiontz, Kirk & Miles, P. A. John enjoyed his time at SKM; the litigation experience at SKM was invaluable - John litigated hundreds and hundreds of cases in the Md. Court system.

In 2004, John opened his own law firm " Eastern Shore Legal " in Centreville - on "Lawyers Row." Currently, John and his family make their home in Centreville.
